The goal of the Trumansburg Food Pantry is to provide good quality/nutritious free food for families in need who include: working but with low income, single parents, unemployed, disabled and Senior Citizens. Funds used to purchase food come from many sources: Trumansburg Area Churches; private donations; United Way/via the Ulysses Community Council (you can earmark your United Way donations for the Trumansburg Food Pantry—we do receive those monies); CROP WALK – usually held in October each year -- (25% of income from the WALK comes back to our local pantry); and other fund raising activities (some county wide); as well as grants from County, State and Federal agencies. We also accept donations of non-perishable foods from many organizations and individuals throughout the year (such as from the Festival of Lights tree competition). We welcome fresh produce as available.
Volunteers from the host churches, and others, assist with the bi-weekly food distributions and manage the Hot Line for the Emergency Kitchen Cupboard (387-8260).
The Emergency Kitchen Cupboard (387-8260) is a service for those in crisis and immediate need of food, and should not be confused with the every-other-Monday distributions. Several days worth of food is provided for emergency situations, and is limited to 6 times per year for each family. The food for these emergencies is provided by donations of non-perishable foods once a month from the host churches, which is stored in the Methodist Church as well.
If anyone is interested in volunteering to help at the distributions or other times, or to make monetary or food donations, please contact one of the host churches – monetary donations may be mailed to the Food Pantry; P.O. Box 162; Trumansburg, NY 14886.
